Jun. 11th, 2009 12:31 pm Abilities

Our boss has asked my manager and myself to compile a list of abilities that we have that we use in our job, and a list of abilities that we have that we could use in our job but don't.

So, I'm going to put down something like, 'can identify various specimens of flora and fauna.'

And my manager is going to put down something like, 'can disarm and render a man dead with 2 fingers.'

Mar. 20th, 2009 06:36 pm Where are the Golden Girls?

The old women in my building are nuts!

They've redecorated the hallways.  When I tried to ask what the plans were or ask if I could put any input in, I was responded to in rudeness.

So, I think the new hallways are disgusting.  It looks like some sort of 2nd rate 60's rent by the hour motel.   I'm not impressed by the textured wallpaper or the carpets that look like little spemies swimming all over it.  Nor am I a fan of the light box they built at the entrance.
It seems that they would rather waste our money on he hallways to improve the bldg, instead replacing the single pane windows that let out all the heat in winter.  This is why here on the 2nd floor it's always 80 degrees, because the heat never reaches the 6th floor.  It's a waste of resources and a waste of money.
But you can't even have a conversation about it.  Some old . . . errr . . ... lady, just yelled at me that I'm wrong and I don't know anything because I don't like our new motiff.  All I said is that I didn't like the look and that I'm blinded by the over use of florescent light in the hallways.  Which is how the other people who live in the bldg feel.  I've talked with a dozen people, and they tell me they don't like it, and they don't like the old people on the board.  And of course, all those people are under the age of 70.
But what do you expect.  These are the same old women who think that having 2 pools outside, both leaking and needing repair, both of which are only 3 feet deep, and both of which have pool furniture older than me; that these 2 pools are a selling point for the bldg.  More like an eye sore to if you ask me.  They also don't think we need an exercise room / gym.
If only our realtor could sell this place, which she hasn't been able to accomplish these past 4 years, then maybe I would think that these old ladies could have just a little validity to their claims.  But it seems that the only people who are ever really interested in buying into this bldg are old ladies.  And the deals never go through because they either break a body part and can't live here on their own, or they die before the paperwork is finished going through.

Oh did I mention that the basement laundry room looks like a plum exploded?  Or that one old lady told me that she throws her bath mats in the dryer to get rid of the hair and nail clippings, but she doesn't wash it first.

I really need to move.   This is ridiculous.

Jul. 9th, 2008 02:48 pm OMG!! My World Is OVER!

I can't seem to access Facebook right now.  True that I am at work . . .....  but COME ON!!

So, I tried to Twitter about it . . ...... no luck there either.

sigh.

In an age of techno-whatever communication, I am feeling limited and censored.  I think this means that I will just have to get an iPhone, just in order the have access to everything I need.

I was wondering what a bunch of Turkeys was called.  You know, like a 'gaggle of geese.'

A rafter of turkeys.              http://www.bcpl.net/~tross/gnlist.html

There are other cool ones, like:
A peep of chickens
An unkindness of ravens
A kettle of hawks

Alright, so I just read the rest of the page . . .....  So I'll just wait to see people's comments on how a rafter of turkeys isn't really official.  sigh

Feb. 11th, 2008 10:59 am My Job Environment

My work environment is SO difficult!

So, I try not to be out at work.  Not that I act differently, I just don't discuss the politics of it or my dating life.
Anyhow, I don't know how people don't know, either they are oblivious, or they're from RI . . .....  (JK)

So, why is so difficult?  Cause my coworker insists on having the radio on all day long.   Whitney Houston's version of "I'm Every Woman" came on the radio, and I was just about to burst out with the chorus, when I remembered where I was and who I was with.
sigh
Is it really terrible if I did burst out as if I were Whitney traveling through Israel?  (Yes, that's what she does.  She goes and visits her brother there, and then she sings like a mad woman at the gas pumps.)

Jan. 1st, 2008 02:35 am Happy New Year!

So, so far this year, the best comment I've heard yet was, "What are those people in Times Square, [who are wearing 2008 glasses] going to wear in 2011?"

Oct. 26th, 2007 12:08 pm Fianlly a Post

What a morning!

Today I had an interview for a job I really want.
Not that I don't like my current job, but I don't like my current job.

So, the other job is more challenging and involved, and may require field work and weekends in the office, but you know, I welcome the change.   It's nice to feel needed and wanted and used.  Where I am now, they hardly do that, and there is so much potential, possibilities, that go undelt with.
Alright, I really don't want to rant or even go on.
This would be a great opportunity for me, to have a job with insurance and all that other fun stuff.
:-)
I got there at 7:30am (me).  The first guy I interviewed was late, and then we met for an hour.  It was supposed to be a 2 hour interview, but went on for like 3 and 1/2 hours.  I answered all their questions on the money, which may be a good or a bad thing.  Most importantly, I like what they do, environmental clean-up and analysis projects, and would lurve to be part of their team.
Should I send a Thank You email saying that?

Aug. 29th, 2007 11:51 pm South of the Boarder

Ok, so I'm MUCH further than South of the Boarder.

For instance, there was the 9 hours flight from Miami International, and once we get to Buenos Aires we have to circle the city because their radar broke, so they are having trouble keeping track of all the planes.
The Pilot made noted to us passengers that on the right we could see a Lufthansa, on the left an Iberias and underneath us was an Aeorlinas.

Well, once in the city (an hour from the airport, and you can only get to and from the aeroport by car) my parents took me for lunch.
I was tired, and ordered what sounded good.
I'm terrible, I didn't look at the price or anything.  Well, I got Lomo, because I like Lomo.  Lomo is Fillet Mignon, but the piece they brought me was 2 or 3 times the size you would get in a US restaurant.
¡¡¡It was SO freaking good!!!
¡I haven´t had meat like that in years!

Then the bill came.  And I realized what I had ordered . . ...... it was just under 20 pesos, which is like $6.50-$7
I still can´t believe it.  Where ever you go the food is so cheap by our standards.

So, now I am in Santa Fe.  Distance wise, Buenos Aires is to Santa Fe, as New York is to Boston.
All the building here are like 1 or 2 stories tall, except for the new Holiday Inn we are at which is 15 floors.
Tomorrow we will explore more.  My father and I just got in here, because we went to visit is little village he grew up in (which has largely been abandoned by Jews, life and money.  Just like the rest of the surrounding towns).  So, we are tired after the four hour drive on the 2 lane highway (that includes both directions of traffic), and all the dirt kicked up on all the unpaved roads.

In 2 days I took like 2 or 3 hours of footage.  I really should start a video blog, but I don't currently have the time or technical availability at my disposal.  So, people will just have to wait for me to make the movies of all the dogs horses chickens cows and whatever else was wandering freely about.
Oh yeah, there are people and places.  Cemeteries Synagogues Houses Train Stations Outhouses and my favorite, The Last Jew.  He is a really nice guy.

Alright.  I am off to bed.   Tonight we are warm in the Holiday Inn.  Last night, we slept out in the Mosses Ville, where we had three blankets each to cover us and we are still cold.  Mind you it is winter here, but it´s like out Autumn.  It´s ok, it´s like a Maine morning cold, then it dissipates.  Apparently I am the only one here who seems to find it warm enough to go in short sleeve during the day.  Funny, cause I´m usually always so cold.

One last thing.  In Boston, . . .. err rather Newton, the sun rises in the South East, and sets in the South West.  Here, the sun feels the need to rise in the North East and set in the North West.  It is very disconcerning.  Someone please fix it.

¿Any votes on whether I should go to Evita Peron's grave?

Quinto Offers Trek Details

Zachary Quinto, who will play a young Mr. Spock in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek movie, told USA Today that he will begin shooting the top-secret movie in November, during a break from his role as the villainous Sylar on NBC's Heroes.

Quinto added that 11 sets have been built on the Paramount lot and that two weeks will be spent shooting in Iceland.

Quinto also offered a few hints about the movie's storyline. "I really identify with Spock's struggle," Quinto told the newspaper. "We're going back to a time before anything [original Spock Leonard Nimoy did in the original series] was established. These characters are in a completely different stage of their lives."

(NBC is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.)

Jul. 29th, 2007 10:04 am 9 1/2 weeks

Wow, it's been about 9 1/2 since I've posted.   The new LJ format tells me that I haven't posted in that amount of time, and, my friend was recently telling me about the movie lately, which I have never seen.

A lot has happened and a lot has not happened.
Currently, I am on day 2 of project "Temporary moved back in with the 'rents."  Oh the excitement is thrilling.  However, I haven't been here much because I've been trying to organize all my possessions in this hobo lifestyle I live.  Oh yes, I am now homeless.  Quite sad.   Ok, well, I'm not really homeless, but seeing as how my apartment has an exposed wall instead of a kitchen, and that the bathroom is unusable because I haven't had it redone yet, makes me feel a tad without a place to call my own.

So, update?  Well, I quit my evil part time job, which I will not divulge it's identity.
My Malden job is still going . .... for now.  But I leave for Argentina for 3 weeks in 4 weeks, and I don't know if my job will be here when I come back, contract position and all.  I have to admit that I haven't been looking hard enough for a new job.  And, well, who would want to hire someone who won't be here for 3 weeks.  I am hoping maybe my now-de-chicken-poxed bro-in-law will let me use his lap top in good olde BA to send resumes and have my sister write me cover letters in week 2 of the trip.   :-D

Ummm . . .. lets see, what else?  I have a bad sun burn, which is getting better.  Oh yes, [sorry, I had to run to the kitchen 'cause Ma was screaming about spilled artichoke heart juice (not my fault)].  Well, my job situation . .... I've been looking for some jobs in Miami.  Err, rather I got contacted for a job in West Palm Beach.  The drive is like Providence to Boston, except with a hell of a lot more Jews and Latinos inbetween.  Still, I'm going to looking for more positions in that area as well as Boston.  Sun and and on weekends or days off is not a bad thing at all.  And, I was thinking about spending Yom Kippur there (after Argentina), but the return flight takes us to JFK.  Still, I should test the job waters from afar, but prospects look best in DC and LA for GIS jobs.

Woah, this is long enough . . .....  maybe I'll get back to posting.  I really should read people's posts, but it's been nine weeks. . . .... sorry y'all.
